On Monday Charlotte City Council will vote on a proposal that places tight restrictions on Latino owned taco trucks operating primarily along Central Ave. and South Blvd. while exempting other mobile food vendors such as downtown hot dog carts, and ice cream trucks.

This ordinance is based on perception and not fact. It disproportionately affects one ethnic group, and does not consider the market forces that make these businesses successful.

If passed as written, Zoning Petition 2008-79 will put taco trucks out of business. These trucks are a culinary and cultural treasure and are economic engines for the areas in which they operate. The taco truck owners need your support to overcome powerful opposition.

    This video shows …
This video shows that the Zoning Petition 2008-79 is totally unfair, since it seems to be aimed at taco sellers only. What is the justification for this petition?

    Ask the police …
Ask the police which they would rather have - a legitimate, well-run small business stand, or countless drunks loitering til 2 am; oh, forgot, the problems that police face nightly are of no concern to city council, tucked in their quite beds in Meyers Park and Ballantyne….

    kudos to those who …
kudos to those who put this video together, what a great way to show how silly and discriminatory this law is.

    Luncheras are legal …
Luncheras are legal way to create a business and jobs. With our today economy do we need more unemployed citizens?? It does no make sense to penalized hard working people who are trying to have a decent and responsible way to live this seems to be pure racism why dont you use your time in helping small business owners to growth their business and do well??

It seems to me like …
It seems to me like they are targeting these food trucks because they are run by Latinos. That doesn’t seem fair or legal, does it?

    I guess if locheras …
I guess if locheras sold hot dogs it would be ok? CARNE ASADA IS NOT A CRIME!! NEITHER IS TRYING TO RUN A SMALL BUSINESS IN THESE ECONOMIC HARD TIMES. This ordinance is discriminating against Latinos and the cultural heritage of providing fresh real food to people who want to buy it. Don’t we have enough crime and other problems in Charlotte without worrying about a couple of tacos? Contact City Council members and tell them to vote against this ordinance, to vote no against discrimination.

    In this tough …
In this tough economy, what we don’t need to be doing is shutting down profitable small businesses with unfair government regulation. This is exactly what Zoning Petition 2008-79 will do. The proposed ordinance definition is so narrowly written that it singles out one ethnic group. Regulations need to be fair and equitable.

    We might add more …
We might add more than 35 events in Freedom Park a year with amplified sound, vending trucks, and illegal parking in the surrounding neighborhood to illustrate that anti-taco truck petition is a trumped up zoning aimed only at discriminating against Hispanics.
